4. Cemetery Arrangements

The loss of a family member is difficult to bear. The burden is greater for loved ones when they must make hasty decisions about choosing burial plots. Give yourself and your loved ones peace of mind by making those decisions in advance.

Baltimore Hebrew Congregation and Temple Oheb Shalom have offered members here burial privileges at their locations on Berrymans Lane, Belair Road (BHC), and O'Donnell Street (TOS). They are offering plots to Temple Emanuel members at member costs.

If you are interested in obtaining additional information or pricing, please contact Jo Ann at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, (410) 764-1587, ext. 223 or Jesse Harris at Temple Oheb Shalom, (410) 358-0105.

5. TeLC Recycling Program

There is a distinctive green and yellow Abitibi Paper Retriever bin on the parking lot next to the dumpster. Temple Emanuel Learning Center is continuing its paper recycling program at the Temple and it is open to the entire community. We are collecting mail, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, and text books. Local involvement can help save landfill space and help save trees.

Members and community friends are asked to make sure the items dropped off are clean and dry, and any hard back covers are removed from books, as cardboards are not acceptable. The paper will be taken to Abitibi's de-inking facilities and transformed into marketable paper products such as newsprint.

We need your paper "trash" to turn into our "treasure". Please drop off your paper recyclables on your next trip to Temple.

Thank you for supporting TeLC as well as efforts to clean up the environment!

ALL PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO TEMPLE EMANUEL!

12. Green Energy?

For a complete list of green energy utilities across the country, visit the US Department of Energy's Web site and use the clickable map to find options in your state.

http://www.eere.energy.gov/greenpower/buying/buying_power.shtml

If your area doesn't offer green power, you can offset your the carbon dioxide emissions of your conventional power by purchasing green tags, or compensatory energy credits that add renewable power to the grid equal to the power you use at home.

14. Solar Cooker Project

Jewish World Watch is committed to protecting refugee women and girls from rape and other forms of violence, and helping them to rebuild their lives. Women and girls fleeing the genocide in Darfur, Sudan are placed in extreme jeopardy when undertaking the simple, but vital, task of collecting firewood for cooking fuel.

We are reducing the vulnerability of these women by providing the Iridimi and Touloum refugee camps in Chad with solar cookers, and reducing their need to collect firewood. Our project protects these women and provides them with income opportunities that include: manufacturing solar cookers, training others to use the cookers and making carrying bags to increase the life span of the cookers.

BENEFITS OF SOLAR COOKING:

* Solar cooking can reduce the need for frequent firewood collection reducing the risk of violence towards women and girls.
* Two solar cookers can save one ton of wood each year.
* There is no need to tend a fire so women are free to do other tasks.
* Manufacturing solar cookers provides income opportunities for female refugees.
